>>>Stop overcomplicating your self-care!

Hey there,

It’s no secret that I believe that the health of a business is a clear reflection of the health of the woman behind the business. My business tagline, after all, is reenergise your biz, live a life you love. Here’s the kicker though - it doesn’t need to be complex or complicated.

There’s a meme doing the rounds of Instagram of late that argues that the preposition that self-care is simply taking a bath with some gorgeous smelly stuff is at best diminishing and at worst damaging. I agree - to an extent. While I don’t believe that self-care can’t be achieved without splashing out the big bucks on luxe skin care treatments or exclusive day spas, I do believe that we can enhance our self-care through practical, simple steps that may or may not involve a long hot soak in the tub.

Bottom line - it doesn’t have to be overly complicated or time or money intensive.

Let me clarify something here - when I speak about self-care as a tool, I’m not talking about it necessarily as a ‘fix’, particularly when women are running on fumes or are in need of the services of a qualified mental health professional. Rather, when I’m referring to self-care my definition is the actions you mindfully and intentionally take in your day, week or month to nourish yourself to get and stay at peak you. Mindfully and intentionally are the key words here. This is why I believe that self-care and simplicity must go hand in hand. Otherwise, self-care is just one more item on your already overcrowded to do list that adds more stress and overwhelm.

Self-care means different things to different people. For some of my clients, the stillness that comes with a yoga class fills their cup and energises them. Another client sees yoga as punishment and would much prefer a daily early morning ocean swim. At it’s core, however, is the sensation that in undertaking an activity, you are actively, mindfully and intentionally taking care of yourself.

Physical self-care refers to the health of your body, emotional and spiritual self-care refers to the health of your mind, soul and emotions, and of course they are heavily intertwined.

Ask yourself these questions:

§ How am I taking care of myself?

§ How could I take care of myself?

§ Where and how do I prioritise my own wellbeing?

Now, before you run off to Northern NSW to a health retreat (bring me too, please!) let’s focus on simple. Complexity doesn’t factor here - or it shouldn’t. You don’t need to block out a week in your schedule to go meditate on a hillside. Rather, take advantage of what you have ready access to for self-nurture of your mind, body and soul, every day, not once in a blue moon, if at all.

For your body’s health, nutrient-dense whole foods for the win! Intentional and mindful acts of physical self-care look like a warm cup of gorgeous tea while wrapped in a rug at dusk, or meal planning on a weekend to set up for a week of healthy eating or grabbing your gym’s app to schedule in your week’s workouts.

For your mind’s health, set some goals, read a fabulous book, invest in some professional development or set some boundaries for your business such as only responding to emails within a certain window.

Fill your soul with a walk in nature with a treasured friend, finding a new meditation app or a slow morning in your favourite pjs snuggling your pet.

Bring all three together - mind, body and soul - through your rituals, routines and habits. Or go into full project management mode and apply the same KPIs to your self-care as you would your business. It might look like a revised morning routine, a daily WIP with yourself at the end of the work day which includes a 10 minute regrouping meditation, scheduling regular ‘meetings’ with people who uplift and inspire you or a weekly shop and batch cook session. The main thing - don’t overcomplicate it!

While self-care need not be complex, it’s not always easy to do, particularly unsupported. As a business coach, my role is to support you to create a sustainable, successful business, and this can’t happen if your self-care is neglected. Your health has a direct and indisputable impact on your business. I have a range of programs and products to support you- your first step in taking care of the future health of both yourself and your business is to simply reach out.

 To your success…
